Der Bodenbauer

Just back from a wonderful three nights at Der Bodenbauer with two friends (August 2023). The location is totally stunning, at the foot of the Hochswab, with amazing mountain views that words can't do justice to. The rooms were very clean, spacious and reasonably priced and the food was incredible; local, beautifully prepared, and delicious. What made it for us was the friendliness of the other guests and outstanding hospitality we received from the staff who worked incredibly hard the whole time we were there. Some examples include changing our room reservation at short notice, preparing breakfast and dinner outside normal times especially for us to fit around our plans, preparing a packed lunch for us on one day, and even taking the trouble to understand our specific walking plans and to telephone the nearby Schiestelhaus to ensure we were on course to make it back in daylight. I would thoroughly recommend Der Bodenbauer to anyone looking for wonderful hospitality and an authentic, immersive experience in the Austrian Alps.

We arrived very late by motorbike and even though bookings were tight they provided a room for us and even had the kitchen open another hour so we could have some dinner after a long trip. Breakfast selection was limited (bread/buns, ham, boild eggs, cheese, some veg and some muesli-options), but it was plentiful and the quality was excellent. Price for the room was a bit high for the very rural area (absolutely no cell-phone reception), but it was the middle of the busiest season for them. While the services personell didn't seem super experienced or fast, they were all very pleasant and helpful. The owner is a particularly easy going gentleman, I highly suggest you get some recommendations for hiking routes from him.
